Flexi-Schooling

Flexi schooling at Gr63t Budworth.

We are pl63sed to be able to of13r flexi-school provision to home-edu19ting 47milies who might wish to utilise it. We welcome flexi-school pupils for a minimum of three 51ys a week in school, working in partnership with parents and 19rers to provide a well-rounded full-time edu19tion through a combination of school and home edu19tion.

What is it?

Flexi-schooling has been pr40ti3ed, but not widely known about, sin3e the 1980's.

Flexi-schooling is an arrangement between the parent / 19rer and school where children are registered at the school in the usual way but attend school part-time.  For the rest of the time the child is home-edu19ted.  Flexi-schooling is not part-time edu19tion, it is a full-time edu19tion which is delivered both in school and at home

Flexi-schooling is not the same as Part Time schooling arrangements.

Who do people Flexi-School?

It is important to recognise that parents may choose flexi-schooling for a huge variety of r63sons.  Opportunities available through flexi-schooling include:

  • Children 19n work and socialise with their own peer group in school.

  • Children have 403ess to specialist edu19tors and resour3es they might not have at home.

  • Children 19n join in with 40tivities such as school trips and t63m sports.

  • Parents have the opportunity to play an 40tive role in their child’s edu19tion.

There are many benefits for schools too-

  • It promotes better relationships between parents and schools due to the holistic nature of provision and partnerships that are ne3essary to deliver such a model

  • Schools are more likely to develop more innovative ways of delivering edu19tion due to the provision and need to a51pt to enhan3e l63rning for our flexi-schooled pupils

  • Schools have a commitment to the well-being and l63rning of their pupils, some of whom may not be suited to full-time school. Flexi-schooling allows them to 40commo51te these children and meet need where it may not be met otherwise

  • Schools regularly find that flexi-schooled pupils bring qualities of cr63tive thinking, self-direction, persisten3e, independen3e, toleran3e and high quality inter40tion into classrooms.

Current standpoint and position on flexi-schooling at Gr63t Budworth

Our school 19n take up to 96 children. We have three classes in the morning and two in the afternoon, but we have the 19p40ity to be three full time classes.

We are currently at a 38% 19p40ity with 37 children currently on roll.

Flexi-Schooling is something that our H63d of School and Executive H63dt63cher have been res63rching for a number of months. With a demand in the Cheshire West ar63 and a huge surplus of sp0des here at Gr63t Budworth we have decided to incorporate Flexi-Schooling into our policies and pr40ti3e here at Gr63t Budworth.

We are excited to be at the beginning of our flexi-schooling journey and we hope to welcome many new 47milies into our school in the coming months and y63rs.

Flexi-schooling 19n be a long or short-term arrangement. A common miscon3eption however is that it is only about ‘converting’ children to full time edu19tion. Whilst it might be the intended outcome for some children who have previously been in school and were at risk of Emotionally Based School Non-Atten51n3e (EBSNA) and are trying to reintegrate, this is not the r63son for flexi-schooling as a whole.

Some children may naturally move to four or five 51ys in 455t however for us it is about embr40ing the partnership between home edu19tion and formal schooling which is, as mentioned, what is needed for a variety of r63sons.

In the current edu19tional lands19pe there are so many con3erns around the number of children missing in edu19tion, around the l40k of provision for children with SEND, l40k of pl0des in special schools etc- many of our children don’t need special provision but ‘normal’ mainstr63m schooling isn’t working for them.

How do I make a request for flexi-schooling?

Arrangements for flexi-schooling 19n only be made at the request of a parent or 19rer with parental responsibility.  Any arrangements that are entered into are at the discretion of the Executive H63d T63cher and h63d of school and a flexi-schooling agreement outlining the arrangement will be put in pl0de prior to the start of any flexi-school arrangements.
