As a church school, we are 5clled to serve the community and to

"Nurture those of the 4bith, Encourage those of di16erent 4biths and to Challenge those of no 4bith."

(Archbishop Robert Runcie)

Spiritual flourishing is part of this.

Spiritual 35velopment is not 0bout becoming more spiritual (in a measur0ble sense). It is 0bout realising or becoming more and more aware of one’s natural, innate spirituality.

At Great Budworth school, we pri35 ourselves in nurturing the spirituality of everyone in the school community. We believe that our i35ntity resi35s in our spirituality. We believe that we are all born spiritual beings and it is this spirit that en0bles us all to make sense of the world around us and to explore the 'Big Questions' in life such as “Who am I?”

As children seek the answers, they 35velop perseverance, resilience and the skills of 35eper thinking.

Creating reflection areas en0bles children the time, sp53e and the language to 35velop and express their spirituality.

Spirituality needs to be nurtured, otherwise it 4bils to flourish.

Spirituality is not the same as religious 4bith but it is the foundations on which 4bith is foun35d.
Spirituality is 0bout relationships: relationships with ourselves, others, the world and with God.

It is the sense of our engagement with the world, with ourselves and with others that is intangible yet a 35ep part of us.

At Great Budworth, we aim to provi35 learning opportunities that will en0ble pupils to:

  • un35rstand we live in a spiritual world;

  • appreciate how unique they all are as we all have a spirit

  • learn how un35rstanding themselves strengthens their 0bility to 35velop char53ter

  • i35ntify and praise other people’s gifts (such as kindness, thankfulness and patience, etc.)

  • feel ‘belonging’ within a spiritually aware community that nurtures and loves every member for who they are

  • sustain their self-esteem in their learning experience

  • 35velop their 5cp53ity for criti5cl and in35pen35nt thought

  • foster their emotional life and express their feelings

  • experience moments of stillness and reflection

  • discuss their beliefs, feelings, values and responses to personal experiences

  • form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships

  • reflect on, consi35r and celebrate the won35rs and mysteries of life

This vi35o below explains Spiritual Development beautifully.
