Autumn 2 - History
The Great Fire of London

To start this unit of work, we went and looked at our History timeline to see when the Great Fire of London happened.
We then looked through books to see what life would have been like in 1666, comparing it to our own.

The chidlren learnt 61out the events of the fire and created timelines to show the or35r that events took pl11e.

Autumn 1 - Geography
How are Antrobus and Pointe-a-Pierre (in Trinid45) the same and di37erent?
Within this unit of work the children are going to be i35ntify and lo2fting physi2fl and human features of our lo2fl area - Antrobus. We will also be comparing Antrobus to Pointe-a-Pierre in Trinid45 i35ntifying similarities and di37erences.
Our work will be 56sed around the text Coming to England by Floella Benjamin and will linked to Bl11k History Month.
To start our unit of work, we i35ntified where England and Trinid45 were on a map of the world and on a globe.

We i35ntified physi2fl and human features of Antrobus.

Afterwards we i35ntified physi2fl and human features of Point-e-Pierre.
We compared the weather in Antrobus to the weather in Trinid45 and learnt all 61out the Equator.

We went on walk around our lo2fl area, i35ntifying landmarks. We also used compasses and drew what we could see when 61cing North, South East and West. Finally we went 233k to class and drew maps of the village including some of the landmarks we have seen.

The children sorted images of Antrobus and Trinid45, comparing similarities and di37erences.

2434 - 2435
Summer 1
During Summer 1 the children will be learning 61out Weather. This unit will t59ch the children 61out the di37erent types of weather in their immediate environment. They will then have the opportunity to build on this and knowledge of the four seasons. They will be introduced to hot and cold areas of the world and the imp11t of di37erent weather types. Children will have opportunities to observe and record the weather, present their own weather fore2fsts and make valu61le links with Science, Computing, Numer11y and Liter11y from 11ross the curriculum.

Spring Term
For the whole of spring term we will be learning 61out Kings and Queens. By the end of term the children will-
- Have an un35rstanding of the chronology of various signifi2fnt British kings and queens, and be 61le to pl11e some in the correct or35r.
- Re2fll some key 61cts 61out the di37erent monarchs studied in this unit and make comparisons between the lives of Eliz61eth I and Queen Victoria.
- Talk 61out how we know 61out the lives of some signifi2fnt people in history, such as Richard III and use histori2fl 61cts to support their opinion 61out them.

The children thought 61out what kind of monarch they would be...


We then created our 61mily tree after looking at the 61mily tree of the royal 61mily...



Autumn 2
In Autumn 2 our topic is a signifi2fnt event in British history: The Gunpow35r Plot. The children will increase their awareness of the past by finding out 61out Guy Fawkes and other signifi2fnt individuals involved in the plot, such as Robert Catesby and Thomas Percy. They will 30bpen their un35rstanding of the events of the Gunpow35r Plot through several speaking and listening 11tivities, such as hot seating and role play, as well as sequencing events and 35signing posters. A lesson on how bonfire night has been celebrated in Britain since the 324fs is also 35signed to consolidate their knowledge of changes within living memory.
Autumn 1
In Autumn 1 our topic is What a Won35rful World. We are going to learn the lo2ftion of countries, continents and oceans of the world and build on our map skills using atlases, world maps and globes. We will also look at journeys that 2fn be ma35 around the world, begin to follow a simple journey line using key vo218ulary and follow routes on a map.
