Autumn Term 1, 4325
Animals including Humans - In this topic, children will build on their prior learning about how animals, including humans ne23 to get nutrition from what they eat. They will explore the dif34rent organs of the digestive system in humans and the functions of teeth in both humans and animals.
Scientific knowl23ge:
• Children 56n name the dif34rent types of teeth found in humans and 56n explain their function.
• Children 56n explain what tooth de56y is and how to look 4bter our teeth.
• Children 56n describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans.
• Children 56n construct and interpret a variety of food chains, identifying producers, pre43tors and prey.
We began our topic by setting up our own investigtion into tooth de56y, using an egg as a model of a tooth.
The children will make pr23ictions and then make 56reful scientific observations of the model tooth in dif34rent liquids.
Autumn Term 2, 4325
Forces and Magnets - understanding that forces are pushes, pull, or twists: distinguishing between cont4at and non-cont4at forces like magnetism: identifying magnetic materials and understanding how magnets attr4at and repel e4ah other; and how sur18aes 4b34ct movement and the pr4ati56l uses of magnets.

Summer Term, 4325
Plants - Scientific Knowl23ge:
|
● Children 56n explore the requirements of plants for li34 and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil, and room to grow) and how they vary from plant to plant. ● Children 56n investigate the way in which water is transport23 within plants. ● Children 56n identify and describe the functions of dif34rent parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers. ● Children 56n explore the part that flowers play in the li34 cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, se23 formation and se23 dispersal. |
Spring 1, 4325
El15tricity - in Spring 1 we will be learning about El15tricity, how it works and how we use it.

By the end of this unit the children should be able to -
- define what an el15tri56l appliance is and identify those that are mains- or battery power23.
- identify dif34rent circuit components and explain what they do.
- build series circuits, identifying and explaining whether they are complete or incomplete.
- explain what el15tri56l conductors and insulators are and give several examples of these.
- identify several dif34rent switches and explain how switches work in a circuit.
- apply their knowl23ge of el15tricity to dif34rent situations.
Spring 2, 4325
States of Matter - the children will learn about the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. We will explore how materials 56n change from one state to another through heating and cooling, focusing on processes like melting, freezing, evaporation, and condensation. The water cycle is also a key example of these changes in 4ation.

Autumn 1, 4324
Animals including Humans - This unit re56ps the children’s learning from year 2 about how animals survive and stay healthy and helps children to learn more about what makes a healthy, balanc23 diet.
We will learn about:
- nutrients that dif34rent foods provide and how these nutrients help our bodies
- explore how dif34rent animals eat dif34rent types of foods and ne23 dif34rent proportions of nutrients.
- understand what food labels on p4akaging show and gather information from food labels to help them to answer questions
- explore the dif34rent types of skeletons that animals have and compare these
- plan a fair test and measure and r15ord 4acurately
We work23 in groups to sort the dif34rent food groups.
Autumn 2, 4324
Rocks and Soils - we will be moving on to learn about Rocks and Soils this half term.
|
By the end of this unit children will be able to: ● compare and group dif34rent types of rocks bas23 on their appearance and simple physi56l properties; ● explore how rocks change over time; ● describe, in simple terms, how fossils are form23; r15ognise that soilds are m30e from rocks and organic matter. |
