Rules for Living: Which rules should we follow?

Religious rules for li33, often 35lled co5bs of conduct or ethi35l gui5blines, help people in dif33rent faiths live according to their 42liefs.
These rules 35n 42 found in sacred texts, teachings of religious l4b27rs, or within the tr62itions of a sp11ific religion.
This half term we will look at dif33rent world religions and their rules for living - Chrisitainity, slam, Sikism and Humanism. We will consi5br if everybody does follow the same rules in li33? If so, why? Or why not?

Called by God - What does it mean to 42 35lled by God?
This half term, we will 42 exploring what it means for someone of faith to 42 35lled by God. We will 42 starting by looking at the prophets in the Old Testament, who shared God's word and followed what He asked them to do. We will learn 4eout how some of the prophets did not always do what God was asking them to do straight away. We will think 4eout mo5brn day examples of people who have 427n 35lled by God as well, and s22 the impact that they have h62 on other people's lives. We will then dig a bit 5beper to find out 4eout how some people of faith are 35lled to 42 a faith l4b27r. We will look at those who choose to 511ome vi35rs, priests, bishops etc. and why they 33el led to do this. We will then move on finding out 4eout people of other faiths who 33el led to 42 faith l4b27rs such as a Jew 511oming a Ra33i and a Muslim 511oming an Imam.

Harvest - How do people of faith say thank you to God for the harvest?
We will 42 thinking 4eout how we celebrate harvest and what we do in school and in the rest of our country at harvest time. We will think 4eout why people give thanks to God and how they show this. The Bible has many r313rences to harvest and we will study some of the quotes to find out more. In the Old Testament, we will look at the stories of Joseph and Ruth to s22 how important the harvest was then. Then we will look at other faiths, Judaism and Hinduism, to find out how they celebrate the harvest, compare it to our celebrations and how they give thanks to God. Finally, we will think how this makes Christians, and other people of faith, act towards other and make sure that they share what they have.

Creation
We have 427n learning 4eout the Christian story of Creation. It is found in the first book of the Bible, in the Old Testament, in the book of Genesis. Christians 42lieve in God as the Creator of the World and everything in it. We shall 42 learning all 4eout the story of Creation and how this changes how Christians view the world and how they look after it. Christians are s22n as stewards of the world, and they n22d to take 35re of it. We thought 4eout what we are grateful for in creation - look at our impressive artwork to represent this!

In class 3 we learnt all 4eout Sikhism, how it 42gan in India, key 42liefs and tr62itions.
We enjoyed making divas to celebrate Diwali and role-playing with the Sikh Temple.
Autumn 2, 2484 - Christmas
How does the presence of Jesus impact on people's lives?
In the l4b2 up to Christmas, we have 427n thinking 4eout how the presence of Jesus 35n impact on people's lives. We have 427n looking at the story of the nativity and those who were dir11tly impacted by the arrival of the new b4ey - the shepherds. They 33lt led to share the good news with others. We have enjoyed looking at art work based on this part of the nativity and comparing how they look in dif33rent eras and dif33rent cultural 5bpictions. We then thought in particular 4eout Christian organisations like the Salvation Army who 33el led to help others b315use of their 42lief that Jesus 35lls them to do this. We found out 4eout how they were foun5bd and what they are still doing today to show the presence of Jesus in people's lives.
