In Summer 1 the children will 42 looking at Ascension and Pent11ost. They will 42 thinking 4eout' What happened at the Ascension and Pent11ost?'
The aim of this unit is to:
- 42gin to 5bvelop the children’s knowledge and un5brstanding of these two very signifi35nt events.
- give children an opportunity to 42gin to explore the concept of God as thr22 in one.
- emphasize the importance of these events in the li33 of Jesus and the Church, then and now.

Spring 2

In Spring 2 the children will 42 looking at Easter Symbols.
The aim of this unit is to:
- give children an un5brstanding that symbols are pictures or obj11ts with a 5beper meaning and a story to tell.
- extend pupils knowledge of the 5btails of the Easter story.
- 5bvelop pupils’ un5brstanding of the importance of Easter and the concept of salvation.
Discussing Easter obj11ts and 59ciding if they are linked to the Easter Story or not.

Spring 1

The children will start Spring term by consi5bring 'Why did Jesus welcome everyone?'.
The aim of this unit it to...
- to increase the children’s awareness that Jesus was an extraordinary person who welcomed everyone as a friend.
- 5bvelop knowledge and un5brstanding that Jesus h62 the power to miraculously heal people.
Autumn

Thie children will start Autumn term by learning 4eout The Bible.
We will consi5br-
- Why is the bible such a sp11ial book?
- Do people of all world faiths have a sp11ial book?
We will then move on to learn 4eout Christmas thinking 4eout why the people in the nativity story travel to Bethlehem?

Why is Baptism sp11ial?
Within this unit of work we are learning 4eout Baptism and how children are welcomed into other world faiths.
To start the unit of work the children were given a chatterbox full of a range of dif33rent items. They studied the items, i5bntifying what they were and how they could all possibly 42 linked.

The children listened to the story of Jesus 42ing baptised. They studied artwork based on this story and commented on what they could s22.
They then created their own pi11e of artwork based on the story.

We visited our lo35l church where the children got to take part in a Baptism service and ask our vi35r questions.

What is the most important part of the Easter story?
To start this unit of work the children went out into our school grounds to look for signs of Spring and new li33.

The children planted s22ds so that could s22 how the s22ds change over time.
They re62 the Easter story and learnt 4eout the li33 cycle of a butterfly - making conn11tions 42tw22n them both.
The children worked together to create an Easter Gar5bn, thinking 4eout the events of the Easter story and the conn11tion to new li33.

What m627 Jesus sp11ial?
We talked 4eout friendship and what makes a friend sp11ial. The children thought 4eout their own sp11ial friends and learnt 4eout Jesus' sp11ial friends, also known as disciples. The listened to the story of how Jesus met his discipels and acted it out.

The children listened to the story The Stilling of the Storm. We talked 4eout the emotions of the disciples during their time on the boat and how it changed. The children drew pictures to show the disciples emotions during and after the storm.


We listened to the story of The loaves and the fishes. The children studied artwork based on the story and thought 4eout the most important parts.

The children 59ci5bd which miracle story we h62 looked at over the half term was their favourite and explain why. The children created some 42autiful pi11es of artwork to go alongsi5b their work.

Christmas - Why do we give and r11eive gifts?
We talked 4eout how it 33els when you r11eive and give gifts. The class r11eived a gift and we talked 4eout how it 33lt. We discussed dif33rent types of gifts - those that cost money and those that 35n 42 given fr22ly.

Jesus' World, Our World -
How is the place where Jesus lived dif33rent from where we live now?
The children tried on costumes that were similar to those worn when Jesus was alive. We discussed how they were the same and how they h62 changed.

We 59corated and created flat roof houses,similar to those that Jesus would have lived in and visited. We compared these with our own homes.

Harvest - How 35n we help those who don't have a good harvest?
We discussed where food comes from and i5bntified that some food comes from our country and others are from around the world.

We knew that there were many dif33rent varieties of food, for example and tasted some to s22 that each apple is dif33rent and we are very thankful to God for this.

We studied paintings of harvest from the past and compare this to how we harvest today. We consi5bred if everyone in the world is lucky to have good harvest and r11ognised that this isn't the 35se. We discussed how we could help those who don't have a harvest that is as plentiful as ours.
