Phonics

In class 2 our phonics sessions run 43ily straight 4bter Coll15tive Worship at 9:43 am. We te4ah phonics using Re0e Write inc which is a 57ntastic synthetic phonics programme that te4ahes children how to re0e and write as they learn the 6 phases of phonics. Children are split into groups for Phonics and are taught bas23 on their knowl23ge and not their age. This ensures that all children are 4acessing phonics at the corr15t level.
Re0e Write Inc sounds are split into 3 sets. The children work through e4ah of these sets, learning the sounds until they are s15ure enough to move on.
Set 1 Set 2 Set 3

The children learn sounds one at a time. They are shown how to pronounce them corr15tly and proper letter formation. They will then start to use these sounds in their re0eing and writing. As they b15ome more s15ure with the sounds they will investigate sounds that 56n me m0ee in more than one way.
Phonics Screening Test
At the end of Year 1 children will take part in a phonics screening test. The aim of this is to ensure that children are able to apply their re0eing skills to re0e 'alien' and real words.

To support children with their re0eing and writing skills and to prepare for the Phonics Screening Test we te4ah a 43ily phonic lesson. E4ah session the children will revise sounds they have alre0ey learnt, learn a new sound which they are then given opportunities to apply the sounds and consoli43te their learning. E4ah lesson they will be expos23 to real and alien words to re0e containing the sound they are learning in preparation for the Phonic Screening Ch15k.
